Towards Understanding Islam is a religious text with a difference. It offers a simple exposition of the essential teachings of Islam - the Islamic approach to life, articles of faith, its scheme of worship and prayers, its philosophy, moral and social values, and the social system which Islam envisages. The book does not at all present vague spirituality or meaningless rituals but the unique and universal message of Islam. A quarter of the book is dedicated to Prophet Muhammad. In presenting Islamic modes of worship and the outlines of the Islamic way of life , the author has also tried to unveil their underlying wisdom. The book is one of the author's most popular books. It's a translation of his Urdu treatise 'Deeniyaat' written in 1932, which has now been translated in over 25 world languages. Meant for both Muslims and non-Muslims alike, Towards Understanding Islam is one of those books which have changed the lives of many and set them along the Islamic path. Maulana Sayyid Abul A'la Maududi (1903-1979) is one of the chief architects of the contemporary Islamic revival and perhaps the most outstanding Islamic thinkers of the 20th century. His works have influenced several Muslim intellectuals and the educated class throughout the world thereafter, including the Islamic Revolution of Iran in 1979. He founded Jamaat-e-Islami in 1941, which is one the most influential Islamic movements today. He authored several books on Islam, both scholarly and popular. His magnum opus "Tafheem ul Qur'an" is available in English titled Towards Understanding the Qur'an in 11 volumes.
